Empowering Marginalized Groups
Women, the youth and Persons with Disabilities often face systemic barriers, including limited access to finance, markets, skills, and a seat at decision-making tables. Lumajira is committed to inclusive programming that ensures no one is left behind, actively reaching the most marginalized informal workers through targeted, equitable interventions.
A cornerstone of this objective is financial inclusion, designed to break cycles of poverty and build economic resilience. Our initiatives include:
- Supporting the opening of bank accounts and mobile money wallets, with tailored onboarding for low-literacy users
- Facilitating the formation and strengthening of joint savings groups.
- Linking members to affordable micro-loans, micro-insurance products, and government-backed financial schemes
- Providing financial literacy training on budgeting, saving, debt management, and digital transactions
- Advocating for gender-responsive and disability-inclusive financial products from banks and mobile money providers
Beyond finance, Lumajira promotes broader empowerment through skills development, leadership training, market access support, and safe spaces for marginalized voices. We support women-led enterprises, youth innovation hubs, and accessible training venues and materials for PWDs.
This strategic focus directly contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by addressing income disparities and promoting social, economic, and political inclusion. It also supports Kenya’s Vision 2030 Social Pillar, particularly the goals of equity, people-centered development, and empowerment of vulnerable groups.
